You’ve probably heard it before but is it true? Check out 5 popular hair removal myths and get the real facts.
Thickness: Shaving Makes Body Hair Grow Back Thicker
This is a common one. When you shave, the razorblade cuts a sharp edge and this creates a more ‘coarse, thicker feeling’. However, the hair itself is not changed. It simply appears thicker when cut on an angle. As shaving only trims the hair from the surface the hair grows back the same as it was originally. There is no further stimulation of the hair. Just remember although it may be tempting as a quick fix shaving can often cause irritation of the skin (not to mention the hair grows back quickly).

Pain: Waxing Hurts!
There is no denying that when you wax the hair is being pulled by the root, so some discomfort is natural. However, the pain can be minimised. Be sure to avoid having your wax session during your period as you won’t be as sensitive to pain. Another tip is to hold the skin taut when removing the strip as this helps to minimise the discomfort of waxing and prevents bruising.
Difficulty: DIY Waxing is Too Hard Compared to a Professional Wax
At home hair removal can take some getting used to, especially if you’re a first timer to waxing. However, if instructions are followed correctly, at-home waxing can leave you hair free and smooth, just like a professional wax.

Frequency: Waxing Removes Your Hair Permanently
The beauty about waxing is that you can expect smooth skin results for longer compared to shaving because it removes the hair deeper and from the root which means the hair will need to form and this can take weeks to grow back. Although waxing is not considered to be a permanent form of hair removal for some ‘regular or long-time waxers’ it can leave patches of smooth skin where hair simply does not grow back.

Hair Regrowth: Hair Grows Back Softer and Finer with Waxing
Yes, this is one of the key benefits of waxing! Overtime you will find that your hair grows back softer and finer as repeated waxing sessions disrupts and weakens the hair follicles. Hair will not grow back when a hair bulb is damaged, so the long-term effect of waxing is less hair growth which is great if you want to thin out your body hair.
