Let’s get specific when it comes to waxing! Just as hair growth can be different for everyone (thick, thin, bushy or sparse) the process of removing hair is also different for each body part.
On some parts of your body, for example your underarms or your upper lip, hair can grow in different directions, while leg hair generally grows in one direction. For this reason it's always good to assess the hair growth carefully before starting your hair removal journey at home!
Let’s get started!
Eyebrows
The first step in shaping great brows is identifying the right eyebrow shape for your face. The shape of your eyebrows can have quite a dramatic effect on how your face looks and an incorrect eyebrow shape can frame your face in an unflattering way.
Top rules for shaping brows at home:
- The inner edges of your brow should line up with the outside of your nose.
- The highest point of your arch should be where the diagonal line extending from the outside of your nose to the outside of where your pupil would hit.
- The outer edge of your brow should taper off at the point where your eyebrow and the diagonal line from your nose to the outside corner of your eye would intersect.
- The bottom of your outer and inner edges should line up horizontally.
For an easy to use eyebrow wax, try the Nad’s Hair Removal Precision Eyebrow Wax Wand. I love this tool because the wax requires no heat, no fuss and can easily be removed with water if you make a mistake!
Upper Lip
Hair on the upper lip grows in two directions, so wax it in two steps.
Starting on the first side, apply wax downwards starting near the nose and pull the strip up towards the nose from the side of your mouth. Repeat these steps for the opposite side.
It’s important to use a wax that is specifically made for face waxing, as the formula will be more gentle on your skin. Nad’s Hair Removal Facial Wax Strips allow you to remove hair quickly and easily from delicate facial areas. Remember these strips also work for your chin too!
Underarms
Hair grows in two directions under the arms so it’s important to treat in two stages as well.
Apply the wax upwards for the top half of your armpit and pull downwards away from the hair growth. Now apply the wax downwards on the bottom half of your armpit and pull the wax upwards to achieve best results.
It is normal for underarm waxing to be painful at first, since the skin is more delicate in this area. Be sure to pull the wax off in one quick motion, as removing it slowly may feel more painful and will not remove the hair properly.
Apply firm pressure to the skin immediately after removing the wax to help reduce pain.
Check out Nad’s Natural Hair Removal Wax Strip Kit for 3 strips sizes to choose from, including one size that is perfect for waxing underarms at home.
One of the biggest mistakes people make is to pull the wax off in the wrong direction. You must apply the wax in the direction of hair growth and pull the strip back in the opposite direction of hair growth. Another point to keep in mind when pulling the strip off to make waxing less painful on your legs is to ensure you hold the skin taut with your other hand when pulling the strip back. Doing this quickly and as close and parallel to the skin as possible will help to minimise discomfort and prevent bruising.
Bikini / Brazilian
With Bikini and Brazilian waxing it is key that you use a hard wax that is specially formulated for this sensitive area, such as the Nad’s Hair Removal Brazilian and Bikini Wax. Make sure you follow the detailed instructions in the pack step-by-step. As it is such a sensitive area, allow time and don’t rush. Always keep a mirror handy to see any hard-to-reach areas or even get a (very) close friend to help!
Avoid waxing during, and right before your menstrual cycle. Your body tends to be more sensitive due to the change of hormones and this may cause the waxing to be more painful.
Legs
Ensure you hold the skin taut when pulling the strip back. Do this quickly and as close and parallel to the skin as possible to minimise discomfort and prevent bruising.
Nad’s Natural Hair Removal Sugar Wax Kit is gentle on all skin types and perfect for removing hair from larger body parts like legs and arms.
Finally, remember to prepare your skin before waxing any body part at home
Do this by making sure your skin is clean, dry and free of any moisturisers or oils.
Check that your hair length is between 2-5mm (or at least the length of a grain of rice – I like to use this visual as a reminder) 😉 Hair that is shorter is unlikely to be removed while waxing.
Finally, don’t be concerned if your skin appears a little red after waxing, it’s normal!
